Jon Krakauer was born in Massachusetts in the year 1954 but moved to Oregon with his family shortly after hew was born. His first climb came when he was eight years old and did it with his dad and a family friend named Willi Unsoeld. This event helped Jon fall in love with climbing and the wildlife and he loved nature so much that most of the jobs he applied for were wildlife jobs. He started to write for magazines when he was twenty years old and his most famous works came in the Outside magazine where he wrote articles about his love of mountains and wilderness. He transitioned to writing books and published his first book called Eiger Dreams in 1990, which was about mountaineering. He then published his best-selling book called Into the Wild in 1996 about the struggles of young teen Chris McCandless in the wilderness of Alaska. Shortly after he published Into the Wild Jon attempted to climb Mt. Everest, but many of his friends died and he wrote a stunning article about his trip. He was nominated for a National Magazine Award for his article in Outside about Chris McCandless and his book. He has also writen other great books, including Into Thin Air and Under the Banner of Heaven. His love of nature and the mountains influenced his life a lot and guided him to his career of writing aticles and books.
